Reprieve from the rain

The green of the lichens popped against the dark deep brown of the wet bark today.

Balmy, as I plucked the pignuts from their husks.

A faint murmur from the ocean.

Still there I said to her, she said to me.

The rain began again so soft

but so loud I could hear from inside

over the sound of my dinner makings.
